International Day for Biological diversity- 2023 celebrations held at Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala

International Day for Biological Diversity was celebrated by Faculty of Life Sciences, Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala in collaboration with Punjab Biodiversity Board, Chandigarh under the aegis of National Biodiversity Authority, India on 22nd May, 2023 to raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity and promote conservation efforts. The highlight of the celebration was a series of interactive activities designed to educate and engage attendees about the value of biodiversity. The event included a photography exhibition, a caption contest, and an expert lecture by renowned biodiversity expert Dr. Dheeraj Sharma, Assistant Professor, College of Management Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala.

Dr. Khushvinder Kumar, Principal, Multani Mal Modi College Patiala highlighted the need for continued efforts in promoting biodiversity awareness and conservation, emphasizing that every individual has a role to play in preserving our natural heritage. Dr. Kuldeep Kumar, Nodal Officer of the event said such programs give an opportunity for attendees to deepen their understanding of biodiversity issues and gain practical knowledge about how they can contribute to conservation efforts. Dr. Ashwani Sharma thanked Punjab Biodiversity Board, Chandigarh under the aegis of National Biodiversity Authority, India for providing monetary support.

The photography exhibition showcased more than 120 stunning images capturing the diverse and remarkable aspects of biodiversity. The exhibition featured photographs contributed by professional photographers, nature enthusiasts, faculty members etc. The exhibition was curated by Dr. Bhanvi Wadhawan, Head, Department of Zoology. The photographs depicted various ecosystems, flora, fauna, and landscapes, emphasizing the beauty and value of biodiversity. The exhibition aimed to inspire the audience to appreciate and protect biodiversity. It provided a visual narrative that highlighted the interconnectedness of species and ecosystems and the need for their preservation.

A caption contest was held in conjunction with the photography exhibition. Participants were invited to submit creative and thought-provoking captions for selected photographs. The contest encouraged attendees to think deeply about the images, their ecological significance, and the messages they conveyed. The winners of the caption contest were awarded certificates to recognize their creativity and understanding of the subject matter. First prize was bagged by Khushi of B.Sc. II (Med), Second prize was awarded to Noorpreet Kaur of B.Sc. II (Med) and third prize was bagged by Kiranpreet Kaur of B.Sc. II (Med). Consolation prize was given to Pamalpreet Kaur of B.Sc. I (Med) and Harleen Kaur and Zainab of B.Sc. II (Hons.) Biotechnology. The contest was conceptualized and executed by Dr. Manish Sharma and Dr. Heena Sachdeva.

The highlight of the event was an expert lecture delivered by a distinguished biodiversity expert Dr. Dheeraj Sharma, Assistant Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala. The expert shared valuable insights, knowledge, and experiences related to biodiversity conservation. The lecture covered topics such as the current state of global biodiversity, threats to biodiversity, and conservation strategies. The lecture was followed by a Q&A session, allowing participants to interact directly with the expert and clarify their queries. Stage was conducted by Dr. Akshita and vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Maninder.

ਜੈਵਿਕ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਲਈ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਦਿਵਸ 22 ਮਈ, 2023 ਨੂੰ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਜੈਵ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਅਥਾਰਟੀ, ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਜੈਵ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਬੋਰਡ, ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਫੈਕਲਟੀ ਆਫ਼ ਲਾਈਫ ਸਾਇੰਸਜ਼, ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਜੈਵਿਕ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਗਰੂਕਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਸੰਭਾਲ ਦੇ ਯਤਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਿਤ ਕਰਨਾ। ਜਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਤਾ ਜੈਵਿਕ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਲ ਬਾਰੇ ਹਾਜ਼ਰੀਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਿਅਤ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਇੰਟਰਐਕਟਿਵ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਲੜੀ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਫੋਟੋਗ੍ਰਾਫੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨੀ, ਇੱਕ ਕੈਪਸ਼ਨ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ, ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਜੈਵ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਮਾਹਿਰ ਡਾ. ਧੀਰਜ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਦਵਾਰਾ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਸੀ।

ਡਾ. ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ, ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ, ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜੈਵ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਜਾਗਰੂਕਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਨਿਰੰਤਰ ਯਤਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ‘ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਡੀ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲਣ ਲਈ ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਹੈ। ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੇ ਨੋਡਲ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਡਾ. ਕੁਲਦੀਪ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਹਾਜ਼ਰੀਨ ਨੂੰ ਜੈਵ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਦਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਮਝ ਨੂੰ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਹਾਰਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਦੇ ਯਤਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਡਾ. ਅਸ਼ਵਨੀ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਨੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਜੈਵ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਅਥਾਰਟੀ, ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਜੈਵ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਬੋਰਡ, ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਦਾ ਵਿੱਤੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਫੋਟੋਗ੍ਰਾਫੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੈਵ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਭਿੰਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਮਾਲ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੈਪਚਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ 120 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਤਸਵੀਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਫੋਟੋਗ੍ਰਾਫ਼ਰਾਂ, ਕੁਦਰਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀਆਂ, ਫੈਕਲਟੀ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਆਦਿ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਸਵੀਰਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਿਤ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ। ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨੀ ਦਾ ਸੰਚਾਲਨ ਡਾ. ਭਾਨਵੀ ਵਧਾਵਨ, ਮੁਖੀ, ਜ਼ੂਆਲੋਜੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ। ਫੋਟੋਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੈਵ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੁੱਲ ‘ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀਆਂ, ਬਨਸਪਤੀ, ਜੀਵ-ਜੰਤੂ ਅਤੇ ਲੈਂਡਸਕੇਪ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨੀ ਦਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਜੈਵ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਲਈ ਦਰਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਜ਼ੂਅਲ ਬਿਰਤਾਂਤ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਸਪੀਸੀਜ਼ ਅਤੇ ਈਕੋਸਿਸਟਮ ਦੀ ਆਪਸੀ ਤਾਲਮੇਲ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਫੋਟੋਗ੍ਰਾਫੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੈਪਸ਼ਨ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਭਾਗ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਣੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਤਸਵੀਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਸਿਰਜਣਾਤਮਕ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਚ-ਪ੍ਰੇਰਕ ਸੁਰਖੀਆਂ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਨੇ ਹਾਜ਼ਰੀਨ ਨੂੰ ਚਿੱਤਰਾਂ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣਕ ਮਹੱਤਵ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਡੂੰਘਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਸੋਚਣ ਲਈ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਕੈਪਸ਼ਨ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਦੇ ਜੇਤੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾਤਮਕਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਨਤਾ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਸਰਟੀਫਿਕੇਟ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਏ। ਬੀ.ਐਸ.ਸੀ (ਮੈਡੀਕਲ–ਭਾਗ ਦੂਜਾ) ਦੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਇਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਦੂਜਾ ਇਨਾਮ ਬੀ.ਐਸ.ਸੀ (ਮੈਡੀਕਲ–ਭਾਗ ਦੂਜਾ) ਦੀ ਨੂਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਤੀਜਾ ਇਨਾਮ ਬੀਐਸਸੀ (ਮੈਡੀਕਲ–ਭਾਗ ਦੂਜਾ) ਦੀ ਕਿਰਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਬੀ.ਐਸ.ਸੀ (ਮੈਡੀਕਲ–ਭਾਗ ਪਹਿਲਾ) ਦੀ ਪੈਮਲਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਅਤੇ ਬੀ.ਐਸ.ਸੀ. (ਭਾਗ–ਦੂਜਾ) (ਬਾਇਓਟੈਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਆਨਰਜ਼) ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਹਰਲੀਨ ਕੌਰ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ੈਨਬ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਕੌਂਸੋਲੇਸ਼ਨ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ। । ਇਸ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਦਾ ਸੰਕਲਪ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਚਾਲਨ ਡਾ. ਮਨੀਸ਼ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਹਿਨਾ ਸਚਦੇਵਾ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਇਸ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਉੱਘੇ ਜੈਵ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਮਾਹਿਰ ਡਾ. ਧੀਰਜ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ, ਸਹਾਇਕ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਮਾਹਿਰ ਨੇ ਜੈਵ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਸੂਝ, ਗਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕੀਤੇ। ਲੈਕਚਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਲੋਬਲ ਜੈਵ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਦੀ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸਥਿਤੀ, ਜੈਵ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਲਈ ਖਤਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਣਨੀਤੀਆਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ। ਲੈਕਚਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਇੱਕ ਸਵਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਹੋਇਆ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਗੀਦਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਹਿਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਵਾਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਸਟੇਜ ਸੰਚਾਲਨ ਡਾ. ਅਕਸ਼ਿਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਮਤਾ ਡਾ. ਮਨਿੰਦਰ ਨੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ।
